You are well aware that your clients have different-sized areas of hair loss on their heads. While our selection of stock hair replacement systems will be more than adequate for most, you will find that sometimes the base size of these hair systems will not be fit for everyone. Suggesting a custom-made hair system to them would be the next obvious step as we would then make the base to the exact specifications of your client. However, time is often an issue and some of your customers will not want to wait up to six weeks for their custom hair systems to be made. We have though designed some of our bases in such a way that they can be cut into different sizes to fit for the requirements of your clients. You should, therefore, learn how to cut the base of a hair system down to size. That way you can offer an additional service to your customers and provide stock hair systems that match the individual dimensions of more of your customers. Read on as we explain the process to you.
Base cutting is not a complicated process and to do it all you will need is a pair of scissors, a China marker, and some measuring tape. The scissors are very important. They need to be very new and sharp to cut the base and should only be used for cutting bases.
To begin with, you need to take the tape and measure out the base size your customer wants and mark those points with the marker. You need to do this for both the width and the length of the base. Then you can join up the marks to make one solid line around the base.
Before you pick up the scissors, you need to pull the hair back behind the line you marked out. Then, carefully cut along the line and make sure the hair stays behind the line otherwise you will end up cutting the hair off by mistake. If you do end up cutting the hair, you will be left with short pieces of hair around the hairline that will not look very natural.

They all come in a base size of 8 x 10” and their product names are: HS1, HS1-V, HS7, HS15+, HS25-V, INS, ICON, Q6, HS27, and HS27+
The first seven of these – that is the HS1, the HS1-V, the HS7，the HS15+，the HS25-V，the INS，and the ICON – can all be cut freely without any restrictions. You just need to make sure your clients wear their toupees a few inches behind their front hairline (perhaps they have their own hair at the front of their hairline) or want their toupee to offer them a new natural front hairline. For people still with their own hair across their front hairline, you can cut a few inches back from the front hairline of the toupee. If your customer wants a natural-looking hairline you will have to cut from the back of the base and leave the front as it is. That’s because the front hairline of the toupee is made with single knots and knotted in an irregular way to create a natural front hairline. Cut those front single and irregular knots off and the front will just have double knots instead. Double knots are not natural enough for a front hairline. You’ll also need to check whether your customers want a crown or not and this is especially true if the base is going to be cut down to a very small size. So make sure the front hairline or not, crown or not, then cut it is ok.
However, in the case of the Q6, the HS27, and the HS27+, you need to take a few things into consideration before you cut them. We deliberately increased the size of the PU area on the back and sides of the Q6 by 2” to allow the size of the base to be made smaller. That said, you still need to make sure the final base size is not too small otherwise you will just be left with French lace and you will have changed the base design of the hair system. You should, therefore, only cut along the PU section of the Q6. If not, you need to let the client know that there will no PU left and they will instead have an all-French lace base. However, if your customer is happy with a medium hair density and wants color #1B then we make this product in several smaller base sizes: 6 x 8″, 6 x 9″, 7 x 9″, 7 x 10″, and 8 x 10″.
We also designed a larger PU area on the back and sides of the HS27 and the HS27+ so that the unit can be cut. As you know, mono cannot be used on the edge of a base – it needs PU, ribbon or another material to seal the edge because a mono edge will fray. So if the PU area was too thin you wouldn’t be able to cut so much of the base but a bigger area of PU means you can. Just make sure you cut along the PU area and not the mono in the center of the base.
