FAQs

About Stock Men’s Hair Pieces

What is a men’s stock hair system?

Men’s stock hair systems are premade hair systems or toupees that are already manufactured and in our inventory. Stock hair systems for men are finished products. You place an order, and we ship them to you directly from our stock.

Unlike stock men’s hair replacements, custom hair systems are hair systems specifically designed and made for the specific wearer.

What are the benefits of men’s stock hair systems?

Most of our products are stock hair systems. There are a few benefits to using men’s stock hair systems.

1. Immediate shipment: Stock men’s hair systems are finished products. Once you place an order, we’ll ship it immediately, and the waiting time is usually within ten working days.

2. Cost less: Stock hair systems mass-produced, which keeps costs to a minimum.

3. Consistent quality: We set unified standards for mass-produced hair systems for men. Their overall quality is usually stable.

4. Easy Return: Our men’s stock hair systems enjoy the benefits of our return policy. With quality issues, we provide a refund or exchange.

How is a wig different from a toupee?

The critical difference between a wig and a hairpiece is that the wig covers the whole head. Toupees or hairpieces only cover the bald or thinning spots on the scalp.

With toupees, the wearer usually chooses a hairstyle for the toupee and has it blend with his remaining hair. With over 90% of toupees, we attach them by applying adhesive or tape to the underside of the base and then sticking to the wearer’s scalp.

But wigs typically have an elastic band or weft. The wearer can quickly put them on. Many toupees also have anti-slip silicone strips on the underside of the base.

Continue reading to find the difference between Toupee vs. Wig.

What are the differences between modern hair systems vs. old-fashioned wigs?

Modern hair systems are classified as semi-permanent hairpieces, which are used to cover bald spots caused by hair loss. Most men’s hair systems are glue-on ones, made of natural human hair, and attached to the wearer’s scalp using tapes or adhesives.

Modern hair pieces look very real and natural, from the front hairline to the entire scalp. They just look like the wearer’s natural hair. Others can hardly tell the wearer is wearing a hairpiece. The wearer can even wear it to swim or exercise, and the hairpiece doesn’t go anywhere.

Old-fashioned wigs are like a hat and are usually made of synthetic hair, which is relatively cheap. Old-fashioned wigs weren’t specifically designed to deal with hair loss. Most people wear them simply for a makeover, and they don’t look as natural as glue-on hair pieces.

Old-fashioned wigs were mainly attached using clips or an elastic band attached to it, and they were very easy to fall off.

Can hair pieces for men fall off?

A short answer to this question is, with the right adhesives and proper attachment technique, the hair pieces don’t easily fall off or even get pulled off.

Today’s tapes and adhesives for hair pieces create a very strong hold. Gale force 12 may flip you over, but it will flip off the hairpiece you are wearing. You can literally exercise wearing hairpiece, such as swimming, skydiving, etc., without worrying that the hairpiece may fall off.

Can I sleep with a toupee on?

Yes, surely you can.

Glue-on toupee hair systems are attached to your head using adhesive or tape. They are semi-permanent and stay on the scalp just like your own hair. There will not be any uncomfortable feelings when sleeping with a hair piece on. They will also not fall off wearing to sleep.

Can wearers shower with men’s hair pieces on?

Yes, the answer is absolutely yes.

The hold that adhesive or tape creates is robust enough to withstand moisture. But still, try to avoid using shampoo each time you shower, and make sure not to wet the hairpiece within 24 hours of attaching it.

Can I swim with a hair system for men?

The short answer is, “yes, you can.”

The hold the toupee adhesive or tape creates is very strong. You can literally swim wearing a hair system, and it doesn’t go anywhere.

But take precautions before swimming with a hair system for men. If you plan to swim very often, use waterproof tapes or adhesives to attach it or wear scalp protector to make it more cohesive.

Swimming with a hairpiece on too often may result in breakage or damage to the hair. Get some tips on reducing the risks caused to hair by swimming from this blog: Can I Swim With a Wig, Hair System, or Hair Extensions and How to Manage.

Do hair pieces for men feel itchy on the head?

Generally speaking, glue-on hair pieces will not cause itching wearing on the head.

However, everyone’s skin is different and reacts differently. If you have sensitive skin, use a more breathable lace base toupee rather than a poly one. Besides, do a skin test before using any adhesives or tapes.

Do men’s hair replacement systems affect the scalp?

Men’s hair replacements should cause no damage to the scalp, provided that they are properly attached, removed, and maintained.

That said, we recommend doing a skin patch test before applying any tape or liquid adhesive for the first time when using glue on toupee. That will help you figure out if your scalp can cope.

What are the pros and cons of hair systems for men?

Pros

Non-invasive: Hair systems are non-surgical hair replacement systems that cause no damage to the wearer’s natural hair or scalp. Unlike hair transplants, they are painless and leave no scars.

Affordable: They are the most cost-effective methods to fight hair loss. Generally, the wearer spends less than $1,000 annually on toupees.

Instant transformation: Unlike hair transplants or medications, hair pieces give the wearer instant volume and length, achieving all kinds of hairstyles. As a seller or salon owner, you can also get instant feedback from your client.

Highly customizable: Hair pieces for men can be easily customized according to the wearer’s needs. Length, density, color, and base design can all be tailored to suit the wearer’s specific requirements.

Cons

Ongoing investment: After attaching the hair pieces, the wearer still needs to visit a stylist for a touchup or to get the hairpiece reinstalled fortnightly or monthly. Besides, each hairpiece for men has a lifespan. You have to chuck it in the bin after wearing it for several months and buy a new one.

Risk of hair glue allergy: A small number of men do have an allergy to some types of ingredients in the hair glue or tape. However, anti-allergy adhesives or tapes are available for men with this sort of allergy.

How much do male hair pieces cost?

The costs of male hair pieces vary depending on what supplier you choose and the specifications of the hair piece, such as hair type, length, the base cap design.

Human hair pieces for men typically range from a few hundred to over a thousand dollars from different suppliers. At New Times Hair, our retail prices of make hair pieces generally are from $100 to $500, with a typical hair length of 5-8″. You can also apply for our wholesale price to save big. MOQ starts from three pics.

How much does it cost to use men’s hair systems per year?

If you are planning to lead a life of wearing hairpieces, it is practical to set a budget from a thousand to a few thousand USD annually. That includes the costs of the hair units, installation, and regular maintenance. Different salons or stylists may offer different prices. Continue reading our blog How Much Does Hair Systems Cost an Individual User Per Year? to learn more.

Hair Pieces for Men: How to Choose

How to choose the best men’s hair piece?

There are several steps in choosing an ideal men’s hair piece.

1. Base design: Measure the size of your bald spots to decide your base size. And then, choose the base designs, like material, and front contour, according to your preference.

2. Hair: Select the best hair type that suits your or your client’s hair. You will be looking at hair color, hair texture, length, density, and directions.

How to measure the head for the toupee?

There are nine useful steps to measure the head of a toupee. You can also check this blog to find our tutorials with a video: Guidance on scalp measurement.

Tools: a soft measuring tape, white eyeliner, and some tapes

1. Remove the hairpiece and clean up the scalp (if the wearer is currently wearing a hairpiece or toupee).

2. Take the metal top off the measuring tape.

3. Place four fingers above your eyebrows, and mark a point with the eyeliner as the center of the hairpiece’s front hairline.

4. Place four fingers (or five fingers if the edge of the balding area hasn’t reached that much down toward the ear) above your left ear, and mark a second point as the edge of the side hairline.

5. Place four fingers (or five fingers if the edge of the balding area hasn’t reached that much down toward the ear) above your right ear, and mark a point with the eyeliner as the third hairline edge.

6. Connect the three points in a straight curved line around the front hairline.

7. Connect the nose tip and the middle point of the line with the measuring tape. Then, mark the middle point of the line just drawn.

8. Align the starting point of the tape at the middle point, and measure from here to the nape. Record the measurement (with the model in the video clip, the size is approximately 22cm/8 inches).

9. Similarly, measure the distance between the points above the ears, following the curve of the top of the head (for the model in the video, the size is 17cm / 6 inches approximately).

How to find the right color for my hair system?

To help you choose the hair color that best fits your clients, New Times Hair provides three ways to help you find the perfect hair color. If you are new to choosing a hair system for your client, you suggest you select the color close to your client’s natural shade to create a natural transition and seamless appearance.

1) Color Image Board
First, you can click to check our color imageboard for reference. Please be noted, because the colors you see will depend on your monitor, there may be a slight difference between the color shown on the monitor and the real color. If you worry about the color difference, we suggest using a color ring or hair sample instead.

2) Color Rings
As there may be differences between images and the products you received, we highly recommend you use our color rings for reference. We have three sets of different hair rings with a vast range of colors: Stock Hair System Color RingCustom Hair System Color Ring, and Women’s Human Hair Color Ring (click to buy) for you to make the best choice.

3) Send-In Hair Sample or Color Ring
In case we don’t have the hair color you want or you already have a color ring, you can also send us hair samples of our client’s hair or send us your color ring.

What is hair density, and how to choose hair density?

New Times Hair provides volume and density samples (click to buy). We can ship them directly to you right now to help you or your clients choose the best unit.

You can also take the hair volume and density charts below for reference. Medium-light and medium will fit 80% of your clients.

What is hair direction, and how to choose hair direction?

Typically, we manufacture men’s hair pieces and wigs with the following hair directions:
Hair-direction@2x-1
1. Crown hair direction—Center crown, right crown: This style has no break or part. The hair lies from the whorl in all directions around the head

2. Part Hair Direction–Left part, center part, and right part: There is a line with no hair ventilated there to separate the hair into two parts.

3. Break Hair Direction–Left break and right break: Breaks are similar to parts but with a less visible line, as hair around the line is a little denser.

4. Flat Back Hair Direction: Hair is knotted backward from the front hairline and lays flat with no part or break. It’s not a typical hair direction.

5. Forward Pomp Hair Direction: The hair is knotted freely (forward) and brushed backward. It has more lift than the flat back direction and looks more natural.

6. Freestyle Hair Direction: Freestyle is the most popular hair direction. It allows the hair to be styled in any direction above.

What kind of hair do you use on men’s hair pieces?

New Times Hair typically makes hair pieces for men using premium human hair. Human hair lasts longer than synthetic hair and can create the most natural, realistic look. Besides, we also use synthetic and yak hair for gray hair. Check the table below to find the difference between each type of hair.

Human hair

Indian hair

The most common and popular choice we have as it’s very soft and smooth, highly adaptable to color and texture processing. Excellent value for money.

Indian remy hair

Top-class human hair, super soft and silky. All the hair runs in the same direction, usually used in producing high-end hair systems.

Chinese virgin hair

Super strong and straight, can withstand heavy processing without degrading the hair quality. Very sleek with low luster.

European hair

The finest and softest hair material available. Non-processed virgin hair with all cuticles intact and hair heading the same direction. Vulnerable to breakage though.

Synthetic hair

The most common type of artificial hair as it is extremely resistant to oxidation and color change. The best option for gray colors. Very sensitive to friction though.

Yak

Stronger and harder than human hair with shinier color tone.

What are the different types of male hair systems?

Types of hair systems for men are classified mainly by their base materials. The major hairpiece bases are poly skin, lace, and mono, or a combination of two or more materials, such as lace front, silk top, etc., for their unique customer needs.

What kind of hair pieces for men lasts the longest?

Overall, mono systems last significantly longer than other types of hairpieces. That’s because monofilament is the most durable base material. However, we usually use mono in combination with other materials, such as PU perimeters, to strengthen its edges so it doesn’t fray easily.

What is the most undetectable hair system?

Lace systems are the most undetectable hairpiece base. Lace bases melt seamlessly into the wearer’s scalp. It is also the most breathable base material.

Swiss lace is an upgraded version of French lace. It’s softer and finer but lasts shorter than French lace. Our Sunny full Swiss lace hair pieces for men is an example of that.

I have an old hair piece. Can I duplicate it?

If your or your client’s toupee is near the end of its lifespan, and you want a new one, we can duplicate one precisely like it. Be it a new custom-made hairpiece or a clone of your existing one, we can make it. Send us your specifications, and we will get the job done. Click to duplicate it now.

I don’t find the hair piece I want. What should I do?

If you haven’t been able to find a hair piece in our stock hair piece collection, never mind. We can customize a hair piece (click to customize) purely for you.

Get your measurements to us, and we can get a custom-made hair piece for you in a month!

Men’s Hair Pieces Use & Troubleshooting

How do male hair pieces stay on?

Most male hair pieces or toupees for men are attached using adhesives and tapes. Very few use clips.
Adhesives and glues are mainly applied to skin base materials. Tapes are used on lace/mono-base materials.

How to install a men’s hair system?

Here is a general step on how to install glue on hairpieces. You can also find a more detailed guide in this blog with video instructions: Tutorial on How to Install Men’s Hairpieces.

STEP 1: Shave the area the men’s hair system is supposed to cover.

STEP 2: Clean the scalp and hairpiece base as clean as possible, using alcohol, and make sure it is absolutely oil-free.

STEP 3: Cover the shaved area with a big piece of plastic wrap and mark the territory of the shaved area.

STEP 4: Cut the hair piece base into the correct shape and size according to the mark we’ve just made on the plastic wrap.

STEP 5: Attach tape or glue to the scalp, and stick the hair piece on the head.

How to find a men’s hairpiece installation service near me?

If you are a personal user looking for a hair system salon near you, contact New Times Hair. We have partnered with over 2,000 salons and hairstylists in over 200 countries, mainly America and Europe. We can help you build a connection with them in no time. Emails us at info@newtimeshair.com to get in touch.

Why isn’t my new men’s hairpiece sticking to the tape?

If your brand-new hairpiece does not stick to tapes, this may be caused by a production process called “greasing condition.”

We use a particular industrial oil to make the hair smooth and lustrous in men’s hairpiece production. That’s why new toupees often have an oily base, making attaching it a pain in the ass. Clean it using alcohol before attaching it. Please read the blog How to Make Tape Sticker for a Brand New Hair System to find out how to solve it.

How often should I reinstall a hair system for men?

The regrowth of our natural hair underneath the hair piece base will cause the hair piece to become less sticky and lift. That’s why after a while, the wearer needs a touchup or reinstallation of the men’s hairpiece once a while.

Typically, each hair system needs to be reinstalled once every 3-4 weeks.

How to reinstall toupees for men?

Reinstalling a men’s hairpiece is mainly about taking the hairpiece off, cleaning the scalp and the hairpiece, and then reattaching the hairpiece.

Refer to the following steps or read our blog: Hair System Removal and Scalp Cleaning, to find detailed tutorials with a video.

1. Spray adhesive remover on the base. Wait for it to soak a little, and then peel the hairpiece off slowly and carefully. Don’t pull it too roughly, or the base could tear.

2. Soak the men’s hairpiece in cool or lukewarm water, ensuring it is thoroughly wet. Never use hot water.

3. Place the men’s hairpiece on a flat surface and clean the adhesive residue. Remove excess residue with your hand by gently stoking it.

4. If the residue around the hairpiece edges remains stubborn, use the C-22 adhesive solvent. Brush it with a fingernail brush to loosen the residue.

5. Wash and shampoo the hairpiece, remove all residue, and dry it on a towel.

6. Clean the scalp with solvent or alcohol, and shampoo and wash it.

7. Comb or brush out all remaining residue from the scalp.

8. Apply tape or glue to the scalp, and reattach the washed and dry hairpiece or a new one.

What is the lifespan of a male hair system?

Different hair types and bases will result in different hair system lifespans. The hairpieces last longer, in general, with proper care. Refer to the table below for the general lifespan of each type of systems:

Base Material

Lifespan

Skin 0.03mm

Around 4 Weeks

Skin 0.06mm

2-3 Months

Skin 0.08mm

3-4 Months

Skin 0.1mm

3-6 Months

Swiss Lace

1-2 Months

French Lace

3-4 Months

Monofilament

6-12 Months

Why does my hair system shed? What should I do?

There are two types of hair system shedding. Hair shedding from the base and hair breakage.

1. Hair shedding from bases: the whole hair strand falls off from the base: the entire hair shaft and root.
Hair-Shedding-from-The-Base
Causes
Some hairpieces use knotless hair ventilation methods such as hair injection and v-looped hair to create a more realistic hair root vision. Without the tight knots, they are more prone to lose hair than others, especially when used and cared for improperly.
Solutions
Avoid using hot water to wash it. As the base has a layer of glue or PU brushed all over the roots, hot water may cause the glue or PU to melt and enlarge the pores. Use cold or lukewarm water instead, and while combing or brushing, avoid pulling the hair.

2. Hair breakage: Hair breaks from the middle while the roots remain in the base.
Hair-Breakage
Causes
Excessive hair processing: The hair has been overly processed, such as coloring, perming, etc., or has been processed by many chemicals.
Solutions
Avoid overly perming or coloring the hair. Inappropriate perming or coloring techniques may also result in hair breakage or damage.

New Times Hair offers very well-rounded and professional hairpiece repair services. Get new hair added to your problematic hair systems or wigs with our hairpiece repair service.

How do I get glue residue off from the hair of men’s hair pieces?

To remove the residue from the hair of the hairpieces, you need an adhesive remover, fine-tooth comb, shampoo, conditioner, leave-in, and a dry towel.

Then follow these steps to clean hair of the toupee hair systems:

1. Apply six pumps of adhesive remover around the edge of the base, where the residue most likely gets rinsed.

2. Rinse the hair under running water (preferably lukewarm water).

3. Shampoo the toupee hair and rub gently.

4. Comb the hair to remove the residue with a fine-tooth comb. Only do 1 or 2 strokes at a time, then rinse the comb with running water. Repeat the same step. Do this around the base till it’s clean.

5. Rinse the hair system with lukewarm water, and condition the hair to have enough moisture.

6. Rinse it clean, and leave it to dry. Preferably use a wig stand.
