Is Tony Romo Bald or Wearing a Hair Piece?

What’s that guy doing up there? How does he look? I believe many would not be impressed by hairstyles like this. You’d get him to shave his head rather than sport a hairstyle like this. Do you?

Anyway, that was a parody of Tony Romo’s portrait from the ESPN official site.Tony Romo is a famous dude, indeed. But what’s put him at the forefront of public opinion (or maybe rumors, to be exact) this time? Well, it’s got nothing to do with the records he made or the awards he won. Again, it is about his hair.

Who is Tony Romo?

His full name is Antonio Ramiro Romo (born April 21, 1980), a US sportscaster and former American football quarterback. He played 14 seasons in the NFL (National Football League) with the Dallas Cowboys.

He was a college football player at Eastern Illinois, where he made an appearance at the Ohio Valley Conference championship in 2001 and grabbed the Walter Payton Award the year after. In 2003, Romo joined the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent.

Romo, who started his career as a backup, was the Cowboys’ first-choice starter from 2006 to 2015. During his tenure, he led the Cowboys four times to the playoffs, and each time he was named to the Pro Bowl.

Due to a back injury during the preseason of 2016, Romo lost his job to Dak Prescott, the backup quarterback. After he retired, he was hired by CBS Sports to be their primary color analyst for NFL games.

Romo now holds multiple Cowboys team records, including games with three or more touchdown passes, most games with 300 passing yards at least, and passing touchdowns and yards.

From 2006 to 2013, he had the fourth quarter’s highest passer rating of any NFL quarterback.

Romo never made it past the divisional round and only managed to win two of the six playoff games he participated in, which hurt his image.

His 97.1 passing rating is the highest among retired players who didn’t play in a Super Bowl.

Why Do People Doubt Tony Romo Is a Hair Piece Wearer?

Hair pieces are becoming increasingly popular as hairpiece manufacturing technologies advance. People with hair loss issues use hairpieces as a quick and effective solution.

When celebrities have hair loss and go for hairpieces or toupees, the general public follows suit. Most top-notch hairpieces are made of 100% human hair, and with an exact hair color match, they mix perfectly with the wearer’s natural hair. The base will also melt seamlessly into the wearer’s scalp, so no one can tell that the wearer is wearing a hairpiece.

It looks like natural human hair and scalp, and that’s precisely the purpose hairpieces and toupees are made to serve. That’s also partially why most hair pieces or toupees are preferred to a hair transplant.

What’s Made People Guess Romo is a Hairpiece Wearer?

If you enter hashtagged terms into the Google search console, such as “Tony Romo bald,” “Tony Romo hair,” etc., you will see pictures pop up like these.

The first was taken just before the Pro Bowl game at Aloha Stadium, Honolulu, Hawaii, on February 10, 2008.

Tony had just turned 28 that year. His hair didn’t seem the best, and it looked like he was sweaty, perhaps just after a quick warm-up, and the hair became tufted. His hair along the front of his head was thin, but I believe that the density would look normal after he washes his hair and blow-dries it.

The second one was taken at a post-game conference in 2014. Compared to a few other photos, I conclude that Tony Romo isn’t into looking after his hair.

His hair isn’t thick, and whenever he sweats, especially during or straight after a game, his hair gets tangled or cowlicked.

The wildest rumor about him recently has everything to do with his hair. Still, instead of whether he is bald, it was about how messy his hair is, and sources referred to his hair as “old-fashioned bedhead.”

Back in early 2010s, Tony’s hair looked quite thin and not well-covered, and for a while, people always saw him in his cap.

Recently, on his publicized photos, his hair appears full and well organized, so people started their guessing game: Is Tony Romo wearing a hairpiece?

Why Hairpieces, and Not Other Hair Solutions?

While the hot debate continues, I believe some people will ask quietly, there are so many tools or solutions out there to combat hair loss: hair transplants, medication, etc., what makes hairpieces so special?

From an objective point of view, we’ll briefly go through some of the most popular solutions that deal with hair loss, and find out why hairpieces are the ultimate solution for hair loss sufferers.

Hair Transplants

Expensive

The lightest hair density for a hair transplant is around 70-110 hairs per square centimeter. The cheapest for a transplant is $4000-$5000.

Hair Transplant is not for Everyone

Not to mention the side effects, such as scarring, infections, etc., hair transplants are unfortunately not for everyone. Firstly, only those has sufficient hair remaining on their head can get a hair transplant done.

During a hair transplant surgery, the surgeon cuts a strip of hair-rich scalp off the person’s head and plant it to a hairless zone. If the person is bald over 60% of the scalp, he simply won’t have enough hair to cover the whole head. Some areas will remain bald.

Secondly, for those who have enough hair remaining, they have to go through a test to confirm if their hair is healthy enough for transplant, if not, then the surgery will not take place.

No Immediate Result

The recovery time after the transplant surgery is six months or more. That means those with hair transplant surgery will have at least six months before their hair replacement looks the way they’d like.

Although the doctor does confirm that the person’s hair is fit for transplant, no one can guarantee that after the transplant, the transplanted hair will continue to grow in the new zone, and the hair loss issue won’t continue there.

Even if the surgery is successful, in most cases, people can only witness that the person isn’t bald any more, and the transplanted hair normally doesn’t have the ideal density for it to be styled into the person’s desired look.

Medication

For temporary hair loss caused by diseases or chemotherapy, the hair will eventually grow back once the disease is past or treatment is over.

For example, for people with alopecia, Minoxidil (rogaine) can be used. It is a over-the-counter medication. But it take at least six months to prevent further hair loss, and few more months to tell whether the treatment works for the person.

Finasteride (Propecia) is another commonly used medication. It is a prescription drug for men. The person takes a pill daily. But the person needs to keep taking it for the rest of his life to retain its benefits. For hair loss caused by normal aging process, this medication won’t work.

 Laser Therapy

The US Food and Drug Administration has recently approved a low-level laser machine as a treatment for genetic hair loss in men and women.

A few studies have shown that the machine improves hair density. More studies are still being carried out to show long-term effects.

We will see if this method will mature in next 10 years.

Hair Replacement Systems

Hair systems or hair pieces are so far called the ultimate solution for hair loss sufferers. Both temporary or permanent bald people can use them for instantaneous results and perfect hair density.

They are scalp-friendly, no chemical involved, and causing zero harm to the wearer’s overall health. They are also economical. In the long run, the cost for haircuts will likely equal to the cost of well-looked after hairpieces.

All Hairstyles Can be Achieved Using Hairpieces.

Until Tony Romo flips his hairpiece off, his shiny bald scalp exposed to the world, the world may never know if the football star’s hair is the real deal.

Why bother? Hairpieces these days are meant to blend perfectly with the wearer’s natural hair, and the base joins seamlessly with the wearer’s natural scalp. No one can tell the person is wearing a hairpiece.

Why do people guess, and why do people doubt? It’s all because Tony Romo’s hair (or hairpiece, if you are so sure he’s wearing one) is so blended in, even if he is indeed wearing a hairpiece.

Look at most of his photos. Whenever he appears to have a full head of lush, tidy hair, it can be achieved by using top-notch hairpieces. When a hairpiece or toupee is put on, the stylist can cut it into styles like a regular haircut.
