What are Fusion Hair Extensions and their Pros and Cons?

Have you ever served customers who enjoy trying out different hairstyles but whose hair lacks volume or length?

Hair extensions are a great way to help your customers gain a lush mane of hair in the color and style they want, saving the risk of natural hair damage caused by frequent dyeing and perming.

There are excellent ways to add length to your hair, and fusion hair extensions are one of them. They are loved by millions of qualified hairstylists and most female celebrities.

In this post, we’ll put fusion hair extensions under the spotlight to ensure we all understand this effective method in the hair extension world.

What are Fusion Hair Extensions?

When people talk about fusion hair extensions, they generally mean hot fusion hair extensions. Hot fusions are a subtype of fusion hair extensions.

As their name suggests, you use heat to let the hair extensions fuse with the wearer’s natural hair. Hot fusion hair extensions come in strands instead of wefts, so you attach the extensions strand by strand to cover your customer’s whole head using heat.

The terms we briefly covered above, such as “keratin-bond” and “pre-bonded,” are alternative names for fusion hair extensions.

Keratin Bond is More Gentle for the Natural Hair

Thousands of experts worldwide say that hot fusion hair extensions or keratin-bond hair extensions are better for the person’s natural hair than regular glues or adhesives.

The keratin tip at the end of each strand is not some type of solid glue to be melted and joined to the wearer’s natural hair strand. It is keratin, the same material that our natural hair consists of.

How to Install Hot Fusion Hair Extensions?

Our hair is made of 90% keratin (a protein compound). The hair of the extension gets pre-tipped onto a keratin formula, meaning one end of the hair extension strand is a keratin tip.

We need to melt the keratin tip with a heating element, and then, the keratin will cool down and fuse into the wearer’s natural hair and last for months.

Hot Fusion Hair Extensions Used the Cold Way

I know this may sound confusing. But I have to further elaborate on this statement. In simple terms, most hot-fusion hair extensions can also be used as cold-fusion ones. In other words, you can attach them to the wearer’s hair without using heat.

As we mentioned, hot fusion hair extensions are known as keratin-bond or pre-bonded hair extensions. They have tiny, glue-like keratin tips at the end of the hair strand.

You need to melt the keratin tip with a heating element, and in the process of cooling down, you twist or clip it with the wearer’s natural hair to make a bond.

But to attach the hot fusion hair extensions the cold way, we simply don’t need to melt the keratin tip. Instead, we clip tiny cylinders flat to connect the hair extension with the natural hair, the same as how we do cold fusion hair extensions.

Hot Fusion Hair Extensions: Pros and Cons

When we say most female stars love them, we have statistics to support this statement. Indeed, fusion hair extensions have significant advantages that make them stand out. Let’s start with their:

Pros

  1. Fusion hair extensions are long-lasting. Once installed, they will form a solid bond and stay attached to our hair for a long time.
  2. The keratin tip consists of similar material to our natural hair. Once attached, it will be like part of our natural hair and doesn’t put on extra weight.
  3. The bonds will be invisible when fusion hair extensions are joined with the wearer’s natural hair. That’s also partially due to the keratin material being similar to our natural hair.
  4. Fusion hair extensions are perfect for naturally thick hair textures and mix perfectly with the wearer’s natural hair.
  5. Fusion extensions are the most tested, tried hair extensions method and are recommended by most hairstylists. Are you one of them?
  6. Fusion hair extensions adhere very easily to our natural hair.

Cons

  1. Fusion hair extensions require heat when being installed. Though with a professional stylist like you, and the use of heat protectant, heat will be less likely to cause damage to the natural hair, there’s still the risk to avoid.
  2. Time-consuming and cost a bit more: for someone who wants a quick and cheaper install, fusion hair extensions may not be for her. They will take a professional or certified stylist to install, and the average time to get the whole head cover is around 2 hours.
  3. Unreusable: once installed, fusion hair extensions will stay attached to the wearer’s hair for 2-3 months. However, unlike tape-in hair extensions, once taken off, they cannot be reused easily.

How Long Do Fusion Hair Extensions Last?

Fusion hair extensions are attached to the root of the hair shaft using a protein bond that has been keratinized with low heat.

This enables the extension to match the wearer’s natural hair perfectly.

These hair extensions will last for three to five months

They would last longer if the wearer treated them appropriately. To get the best results, carefully brush them with a brush made just for hair extensions, use a flat iron or curling iron sparingly, and wash them no more than twice a week.

Suppose the wearer takes care of the extensions properly. In that case, fusion hair extensions should work better in the long run and probably last longer than expected.

Are fusion hair extensions permanent?

Fusion hair extensions is a permanent hair extensions and one of the most long-lasting hair extension methods. However, it doesn’t mean they will stay attached to the wearer’s hair forever once installed.

The term “permanent” here means they will stay attached to the wearer’s hair for a long time, and the wearer cannot take them off whenever they want.

Hot fusion hair extensions can only be removed with a hair extension remover and the help of a specialist like you.

How Much Does It Cost to Get Fusion Hair Extensions Put In?

Fusion hair extensions generally set us back between $400-$1000, with an average of $550. That’s the labor cost for putting them in.

There’s also an option for cold-fusion hair extensions. They may last a little longer than hot fusion ones and are better for the wearer’s natural hair.

The average cost of cold fusion hair extensions is roughly $1,500 to $3,000.

Do Fusion Hair Extensions Ruin My Hair?

At New Times Hair, we’ve been asked the same question by thousands of customers. In fact, there’s a lot of concern in the hair extension industry about whether or not fusion hair extensions as a whole are particularly bad for our hair long-term.

The short answer is no!

Fusion hair extensions are perfectly safe for most hair types. But the long answer involves a bit more of an in-depth look at a few aspects. Some general rules of thumb are:

  • Remember and remember to make sure your customer has a professional stylist to install, touch up, and remove the hair extensions.
  • Use quality hair and the right products, such as all top-quality Remy human hair from single donors at New Times Hair
  • When installing fusion hair extensions, always remember to use a heat protectant and make sure not to have the bonds too close to the roots.

What are The Best Fusion Hair Extensions?

Let’s put ourselves into the wearer’s shoes to help us figure out an answer to this question.

Why do they want to get hair extensions at all, in spite of the cost? Surely they are keen on gaining length and volume for their hair. They want to look glamorous without others realizing that they are hair extension wearers.

With that said, the hair has to be top-quality and sturdy for the wearers to perm, dye, or cut into various styles. The bonds have to be durable and long-lasting.

Luckily, all hair extensions at New Times Hair meet the criteria above. All our hair extensions are made of 100% Remy human hair from single donors. The bond and the texture of the hair are exactly what top-notch hair extensions are supposed to be.

I-Tip Hair Extensions

I-tip hair extensions are used most commonly on the market. At New Times Hair, they are tested six times before packaging.

These hair extensions are available in over 10 colors, ranging from black to light blonde. The bond is of the same color and the hair, once put on, the keratin will melt perfectly into the wearer’s natural hair, absolutely undetectable.

I-Tip hair extensions can also be installed via cold-fusion. The bond gets connected to the wearer’s natural hair strand through a micro ring and clipped tight to form a perfect bond. For those who don’t want heat, I-Tip is a great option.

New Y-Tip Hair Extensions

This is an upgraded version of flat-tip hair extensions. Besides the flat keratin tip, which is easy to melt and get clipped to the natural hair, a little narrower part of the tip can be easily plugged into a tiny ring, clipped, and worn as cold-fusion hair extensions.

U-Tip Hair extensions

Available in more than 10 colors, U-Tip hair extensions have a U-shaped tip following the curve of the hair strand, which can make the most invisible bond.

Ultrasonic V-Tip Hair Extensions

We always keep up with technology. Instead of using heat, ultrasonic V-Tip hair extensions get installed through an ultrasonic device; quick and easy, well reduces the risk of hair damage to the minimum.

Conclusion

Now we’ve learned what fusion hair extensions are, with hot fusions hair extensions in particular. They get attached to the wearer’s hair by keratin tips to form a solid, long-lasting bond.

Hot fusion hair extensions are also known as keratin-bond extensions or pre-bonded extensions. They get attached to the natural hair strand-by-strand. They are lightweight, and with the use of heat, the bond can be even lighter and better hidden in the natural hair.
